A few months after I moved to New York late last summer, my father was diagnosed with a terminal illness. I began making weekly trips back to Baltimore to be with my parents and help out, but the constant back and forth from NY was taking its toll on me. In addition, I was basically living at my parents’ house and I wasn’t really loving that. I had already dropped my Spring classes at the New School before the semester even began and so eventually I decided to find an apartment here in Baltimore, where I was needed, and settle in.
Working on fixing up this apartment is such a bright spot in my life right now. I love doing it and it’s very therapeutic for me in a number of ways (which I will talk about in subsequent posts). I want to share what I have been doing here, both in terms of the design work itself and the philosophy behind it, plus how it all ties in to my thoughts and feelings about the changes that are going on in my life right now.
To that end, I have started this tumblr as a companion to my original one. It is focused on the evolving design of my Baltimore place and, a bit more indirectly, on my own personal evolution.
